It was challenging to come up with an idea for my TREP$ product. I wanted a product that was maintenance free- nothing mechanical that might break.

I play travel soccer and it’s my passion. So, I tried to paint sponges with a soccer ball design but that wouldn’t work if the sponge were to get wet. About 2 weeks of brainstorming, I was sitting in my backyard admiring the landscape and a light bulb went off; Terrariums!!

I googled how to make them and off to the store I went. I made sure to buy things in bulk to get a better deal. I bought plastic plants; remember no maintenance. After designing my prototype, I had to figure out how much I wanted to sell it for. I added up my receipts to be sure of what I spent and calculated my time spent in the assembly part. I ended up making only 10 terrariums.

The name of my product was Native Terrariums and I decided to call my business NTS for short. Since I came up with the idea and the name, I wanted to go at it alone.

Now it was time to sell my product. What can I say to attract customers? Easy! “Bring the outdoors in with Native Terrariums”. I set up my table at the Marketplace, nervously. I looked around at the other students’ products doubting if I can sell mine. I was anxiously anticipating my first customer and it finally happened. My first customer!! I was so nervous I thought I was going to stumble over my words, but I didn’t. I was proud of my product and sold out within the first 30 minutes. I made a great profit and plan on saving my money for something I really want. Next time I will assemble a mass production of my product instead of only 10.
