Meet Alyza

August 05, 2019

My name is Alyza. I am in 6th grade at Winston Churchill School in Fairfield, New Jersey. This was the first time my school had TREP$, so I was very excited to join. At our first meeting I wasn’t sure on what I should sell at the TREP$ Marketplace. I thought of doing soap bars but, my friend was already doing it so I went on Pinterest to look for ideas, and after scrolling a little bit I saw the perfect idea, Crayon candles. I told my mom the idea I found, and she thought it was perfect because not many people would think to make candles, let alone crayon candles.

After finding the perfect idea it was time to make it. To make my product my mom and I went to my grandma’s house because she is very good at making arts and crafts. When we were making the candles, we were experimenting with different colors, scents and waxes. In the end, we chose variety of colors and used various essential oils such as lavender, vanilla, watermelon, cinnamon apple and apricot. We even added some lavender flowers on some of the candles. At the end of making the candles, we made a total of 48 colorful, beautiful, and unique candles.

At the Marketplace, I was so nervous. It was the first TREP$ Marketplace ever at my school. I did not know what to expect. I was so nervous the no one would buy my product because there were so many amazing products everywhere. When people came to look at my products they loved the prices and the uniqueness of my candles. I was so happy that many people liked my candles. Overall, my TREP$ experiencing was amazing, and I can’t wait to do it again.

Note: Alyza participated in the TREP$ entrepreneurship education program as after-school enrichment,  right at her school. This extracurricular activity is a PBL (project based learning) experience that helps kids gain an entrepreneurial mindset, financial literacy and life skills to prepare them for and improve their futures.
