The Workshops (Workshop Facilitators)

You are in a great position to make the most impact for the students. Remember to demonstrate that you have high expectations, that you know this is a lot, but that you know they can do it. You are excited to see what they create.

Be sure to utilize the online resources sent in TREP$ Success Series #3.

The Workshop Facilitator’s guidebook is probably the most detailed in the kit. It was written to guide people who do not have experience leading groups of children.

Each week the students will come for their Workshop to learn the lesson they will need to apply to their business in preparation for the Marketplace. Lessons are learned in the workshops, businesses are built at home.

A TREP$ Workshop is generally divided into 4 sections.

  1. The first section is teacher led, with a brief lesson in the topic of the week, commonly with interaction of the students.
  2. The second section is the challenge of the week, where the kids participate in teams to apply the skills learned in the lesson.
  3. The third section is when the teams present their work from the challenge.
  4. Finally the lesson is wrapped up the “bizwork” for the week is explained.

The TREP$ Student Workbook has been designed to help all involved. The lessons are described in the book so that if a student is absent, you can simply ask them to review the lesson with their parents and complete the bizwork for the workshop.

Read pages 1-10 in the Workshop Facilitator’s Guidebook for some background information before you explore the lesson plans for the Workshops.

Workshop Facilitator resources like the lesson powerpoints  are available in the online resources and in some editions, on a CD-rom inside the back cover of the guidebook. Workshop presentations are also available on Google Slides.

Helpers are lovely if you are lucky enough to have parent volunteers. They can help with prepping supplies for the workshop, setting up the room, handling sign-in/sign out, help guiding the groups during the challenge, and taking photographs, among other things.
