Meet Sabrina

June 08, 2020

Hello, my name is Sabrina and I made a product for the TREP$ Marketplace. At first, I was thinking of something to sell and I came up with the idea of silly string. Then, I thought that silly string has lots of chemicals and it would probably be hard to mix all those chemicals to make it. Suddenly, I thought of something that would be fun for both boys and girls and does not contain chemicals. It’s sprayable sidewalk chalk for outdoor fun on sidewalks and driveways. Kids would have a blast writing with it!

The first business names I came up with were “Chalk It Up” and “Sabrina’s Sidewalk Chalk.” I started thinking even more about what my business name could be and I thought of “Sabrina’s Chalk Shop.” I thought this would be a fantastic name for my business and “Sabrina’s Chalk Shop” is the name I decided on. I made a sign that had my business name on it and I was proud of my business.

I was working on my spray chalk alone but also with my family. I would not be able to make this spray chalk if my family did not all pitch in to help me. I made the spray chalk by myself but I had a family full of supporters that helped me bottle it. I especially thank my stepdad for giving a full effort to help me bottle my spray chalk. One of my biggest supporters was my mom.

Something that I struggled with during the process of making my product was getting the right consistency and getting the right spray nozzle for the chalk so that you can write with it. For my product, I tried to mix it well enough so that it would not be too thick. In the end, it worked out and the spray chalk formula was perfect! I had to test the spray chalk several times to get the spray nozzle right so that you can get the perfect line. I eventually found the right spray nozzle and you could make a great fine line. I got through my struggles and had a great product!

Standing at my table for the TREP$ Marketplace I felt anxious that finally, I could sell my product. I was really excited for this day to come and I could meet lots of people that want to buy my product. It feels great for people to say positive comments about my product. As I was standing at my table I knew lots of people loved my product and that makes me feel proud of myself for coming this far and finally selling my product. I am very happy that I made this chalk to sell and see the look on people’s faces. It makes me happy to see other people smile.

When I make my spray chalk again I will make a wider variety of colors. I can make more colors so that I can have more people buying my product if they like those colors. I had a really fun time making my product, selling my product, and bottling my product. Now that I was in TREP$ it inspired me to make my own business and go to more fairs. I’m even making a website all with the help of my family. Any kids that are interested in making a business you should join TREP$. You will enjoy it!

Note: Sabrina participated in the TREP$ entrepreneurship education program as enrichment,  right at school. This extracurricular activity is a PBL (project based learning) experience that helps kids gain an entrepreneurial mindset, financial literacy and life skills to prepare them for and improve their futures.
