Meet Kenley

Meet Kenley of Kenley’s Succulent Shoppe!  She is a student at Long Pond School in the Andover School District, and we are proud to showcase her business in the TREP$ Student Spotlight.  Read more to learn how TREP$ helped Kenley learn to trust in her abilities:

My name is Kenley and I am in 7th grade.  My product was painted terracotta pots with artificial succulents.  I chose this because I love painting and plants.

To make my product, I had to learn a lot about measurement, since I needed to evenly measure the gravel for each one.  The most challenging aspect of creating my products was the painting part because the pots are cylindrical, making them hard to paint.  I was doubting my abilities and it was making me procrastinate painting the pots because I didn’t want them to look wrong.

My favorite part of TREP$ was talking to people at the marketplace and trying to convince them to buy my product. In the end, I did sell out and make a profit!  I plan on using the money to buy gifts for my friends and family and some cute toys for my two cats.

The biggest lesson I learned about entrepreneurship is that you have to trust in your final product.  My advice to other kids starting a business is to be patient and to let people help you.  You don’t have to be completely independent when you are doing something for the first time!
