Meet Kateli

September 23, 2019

My name is Kateli.  I am a 4th grader at Ryerson Elementary School. My parents are self-employed they have taught me the value of money earned. It was a very different feeling hearing from them and doing it myself.

Having the opportunity to really do something on my own at this age was fun but not as easy as I thought it would be. There were so many decisions to make on choosing just one product when there are so many great things out there. I wanted to sell something different. I came up with this idea because I wanted a product that could have been used in our everyday lives. I searched the website and came up with soap I wanted to be unique so I added a rope and a loofah along with a few designs. Not only do we use soap to clean ourselves but as a bonus you get to exfoliate your skin at the same time.

The price on the products where expensive however I still managed to make the finished product and kept the price reasonable where it was in a child’s budget and still make a small profit.

TREP$ gave me an opportunity to make my own decisions about everything from choosing my own concept to advertising it, manufacturing it and selling it. I had a fun time creating my own flavors and color themes.

After the Marketplace ended, one customer liked my product so much they asked if I had anything left over and purchased a few more from me.

I look forward in participating in it again in the future.

Thank you for coming up with this great idea for us children to experience this. I learned a lot.

*Kateli participated in the TREP$ entrepreneurship education program as after-school enrichment,  right at school. This extracurricular activity is a PBL (project based learning) experience that helps kids gain an entrepreneurial mindset, financial literacy and life skills to prepare them for and improve their futures.
