Boredom Busters

November 19, 2018

My name is Vipul and I am in 7th grade, and I go John H Walker Middle School in Nutley, NJ. The TREP$ program was an amazing experience, and it was a pleasure attending the Marketplace, where we can sell our own products. I learned a lot about sales, and how to manage businesses. In fact, we even learned about selling products, and attracting the potential buyers of our products.

My TREP$ business was named Boredom Busters, which consisted of “Portable Ping Pong Tables.” I even had a slogan which was, “If you are bored and don’t know what to do, this is the product for you!”

In the beginning of TREP$, I had no idea what I was going to sell. I started doing research, where I found a video of a man playing with a small toy, which looked like a mini ping pong table. I decided to recreate that product, but wanted to make it even better. I even thought how this can help the society. I realized that it can not only “Bust Boredom,” but can possibly help younger kids with their fine motor skills and their hand-eye coordination, in a fun way. I also created this product because I have a passion for tennis and ping pong. The problem is that I have nobody to play these sports with, so I wanted to change that. Now I can play ping pong by myself, anywhere I want to.

Building these “Portable Ping Pong Tables,” was a challenge. First, I had to go to the store, to buy large pieces of wood. I had to cut it myself, so I can save some money. I used a saw to cut the pieces, and then I carefully painted the lines on the board. I then screwed the pieces together, so they won’t fall apart. It now consists of a handle, a net, and a table.

This was a huge success. Everybody loved the product and immediately bought the product when they saw it. I plan to donate my profit to charity, because I want to help ones in need. Once again, TREP$ was a great opportunity, and I absolutely loved it! Thank You.
