Meet Lexi

January 26, 2020

My business is Lexi’s Soap Shop.  I decided to make soap because I had made soap for Christmas last year to give as gifts,  I thought this was perfect- I could make some for TREP$.  At first, it was hard because I did not know what my materials would cost.  It helped that I had some of the molds to make the soap already.

After I figured out the material cost, all I had to do was make my product and figure out what each individual soap cost so I could price it correctly.  All of the soaps needed to be made five weeks before the Marketplace because they had to cure so I had to get to making the soap right away!

I  wanted and needed some height for my display so my mom and I were googling stands and designs and we stumbled over a blog that showed how to make one which was super easy and super cheap!  It took three sheets of foam board from the dollar store. When I was done putting it together, It wasn’t good enough.  I didn’t like it plain white.  My cuts weren’t perfect when I was building it so I wanted to cover it with some contact paper.  This would make it look nicer and hold it together a little better.  I specifically wanted marble paper for the stand and was so lucky to find it.

The Marketplace was really fun and it felt really good when people came up and complimented me on my products.  It was a super great experience and I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Note: Lexi participated in the TREP$ entrepreneurship education program as enrichment,  right at school. This extracurricular activity is a PBL (project based learning) experience that helps kids gain an entrepreneurial mindset, financial literacy and life skills to prepare them for and improve their futures.
