Meet Kate

May 11, 2021

My dream was to make wands to make people happy because I am a wand collector. My wand collection makes me happy.  So when my teacher, Miss Willis asked me to be in TREP$, I was so excited to start my business, “Simply Wand-erful” by Kate. We made different colored wands. To make the wands, I had help from my family.  My job was to paint the wands and pick the colors for the ribbons.  My favorite part was testing each wand to make sure it was magical like fairy wands.

The wands were different themes.  Some were red, white and blue to be patriotic.  Some wands were blue and yellow for the Maple Road Mustangs, which is my school and the best selling wand was the yellow and black ones for West Milford Highlander pride.  I sold out of these wands first.

Each wand was $5.00.  I donated $1.00 for each wand that was sold to the West Milford Special Olympics.  I am part of this team and I love it so much.  I play basketball and I am part of the track team.  My coaches help me practice and get strong. My teammates are nice and smart.  We cheer for each other.

I couldn’t wait to sell my wands at the Maple Road TREP$ Marketplace on Friday, Dec. 23rd.  I had so much fun meeting people and talking about my wands. I sold all my wands, which was 29 wands.  I was suppose to donate $29.00 to the West Milford Special Olympics but my family helped me donate $100.00. The best part of selling my wands was donating to the WM Special Olympics!

Note: Kate participated in the TREP$ entrepreneurship education program as enrichment,  right at school. This extracurricular activity is a PBL (project based learning) experience that helps kids gain an entrepreneurial mindset, financial literacy and life skills to prepare them for and improve their futures.
