Meet Haley of Hay-Hay’s Pet Bandanas! She is a student at Marshall Hill School in West Milford, NJ, and we are excited to showcase her business in the TREP$ Student Spotlight. Read more to learn how Haley’s participation in TREP$ taught her valuable life skills:
My name is Haley and for my TREP$ business, I sold pet bandanas. In order to start my business, I needed to learn how to sew. The most challenging part about making my product was sewing straight seams.
My favorite part of the TREP$ experience was the actual selling day. I made a huge profit. I plan on spending some of my earnings on gifts for my brothers and sisters, and then saving the rest. I enjoyed watching my friends sell things as well.
There were many things I learned from starting my own business. First, I learned that it takes a lot of time and energy. Because of this, I also learned how to follow through and to remain patient in order to finish what I started.
For students just starting out in TREP$, my advice is to pick something that you like and that means something to you. Also, be patient and ask for help when you need it. My family, including my 93-year-old great-grandma, my grandma, my grandpa, and my mom, all helped and supported me when I needed it.
